What is pedodontics?

Pedodontics is the discipline that deals with pediatric dental care. That is, it includes the various treatments that include and are adapted to patients who are in the process of growth and development, that is, children and adolescents between 0-18 years of age.

First consultation

The first consultation is used to identify the patient's needs and problems, and then to make a plan for further treatment. The patient's medical history, symptoms and complaints are reviewed before the oral cavity and teeth are examined clinically and with the help of radiographs. As a rule, the face, oral cavity and teeth are also photographed at the first consultation.

Treatment planning

When dealing with complex issues, careful planning and coordination will usually be required before treatment can begin. This work often requires the involvement of several medical and dental specialties and can be time consuming. On the other hand, it is important that a course of treatment is well planned to ensure the most predictable outcome and to reduce the risk of side effects and complications associated with treatment. The treatment plan can therefore, as a rule, not be presented at the first consultation.
