History
The Norwegian Association for the Prevention of Dental Diseases was founded on 1 June 1911 in Kristiania. In 1946, the name was changed to Norsk Tannvern, a name that was retained until the association was dissolved in 2018.The Dental Health Service Centre of Central Norway (TKmidt) took over the information materials that Norsk Tannvern had produced in 2019.
The aim is to continue to have materials from Norsk Tannvern available, as well as to produce new material to provide the population with good information about oral health and dental services.
There were 165 influential people who were behind the invitation to form the association in 1911. The state of oral health in the population was very poor at that time, and children and young people in particular had bad teeth and often severe pain. The organization's first year was marked by a popular movement where the struggle was the development of school dental care and better diet. The association has also published the journal Munnpleien for over 100 years.
The organization changed in step with society. In the years 1940-60, the focus was on the consequence of sugar in food. After 1960 came the age of fluorine, and in recent times the association was concerned that the entire population should have good oral health throughout their lives, adopting the slogan Teeth for Life.
The Association's main mission in recent years was to act as a national coordinator and to develop materials for the dental service and others dealing with public health. In particular, it has been important to create information materials in many different languages that can be used in dentistry. Norsk Tannvern worked for good health in the population by improving oral health, and organized seminars regularly, among other things.
TKmidt took over the information materials of Norsk Tannvern in 2019. The aim is to continue to have materials from Norsk Tannvern available, as well as to produce new materials to provide the population with good information about oral health and dental services.
TKMint translates patient information at will. We take stock of which languages are used the most in society, and what the population needs. We therefore rely on feedback in languages that are missing. And if you have any other feedback, feel free to send this to tannvern@tkmidt.no. We also accept orders for brochures, this can be done by emailing the number and which ones you want to tannvern@tkmidt.no.
The text is mainly based on chapters in From the Art of Dentistry to the Health Profession. The Norwegian Dental Association for 125 years (2009) and Reisen til Helseland. Norwegian Dental Care for 100 Years (2011).
