Periodontics
Diagnosis and treatment of gum diseases.

What is periodontics?
Periodontics deals with diseases of the supporting tissues of the teeth (gums and jaw bones). A periodontist treats and prevents diseases such as gingivitis, periodontitis, periimplantitis and other injuries of the gums.
First consultation
Initial consultation is used to map the disease picture through clinical examination where gum pockets are measured and x-rays of teeth and jaw are taken. The patient's medical history, symptoms and complaints are reviewed before a thorough training in hygiene routines is carried out and a treatment plan is laid out.
Treatment course
Hygiene phasen
In this phase of treatment, the goal is that the patient himself keeps his teeth and oral cavity as clean as possible. Very good tooth brushing is a prerequisite for successful further treatment of periodontitis.
Systematic treatment of periodontitis
The next step in treatment is the removal of bacterial plaque and tartar on the crowns and roots of the teeth. In many cases, this is enough to stop the disease from progressing.
If this does not prevent the development of the disease, surgical treatment of the supporting tissues of the teeth is required. Surgical treatment aims to stabilize and rebuild the supporting tissues of the teeth.
Maintenance phase
During the maintenance phase, the treatment result should be maintained through good cooperation between the patient and the dentist/dental hygienist. During this period, the patient is regularly summoned for the removal of tartar and follow-up of oral hygiene.
Periodontal rehabilitation
In some cases, the disease is too advanced and the teeth can not be preserved. In such cases, tooth replacement is planned, often together with a prosthetist. Teeth are often replaced with fixed or removable implant structures or conventional prosthetic solutions.
