There are various solutions for braces, and what you get depends on your individual need and what the regulation dentist offers. If you have a strong desire for a particular color, you can ask the zoning dentist about what is available.
Most people do not need braces, but for those who do, the age for treatment varies based on which bite defect needs to be corrected, how extensive treatment is needed, and where one is in tooth development and jaw growth. When you are on check-up at the dental clinic, the dental hygienist or dentist will assess whether you need regulation. If regulation is applicable to you, you will get a referral to a regulation dentist/orthodontist.
The Norwegian Dietary Guidelines recommend that less than 10% of our energy comes from sugar. How much this corresponds to depends on your individual energy needs. For the teeth, limiting the number of sugar intake is more important than the total amount of sugar. That is, it is better to eat a bag of goodies at once (for example, as a Saturday treat) than to distribute the bag throughout the week.
Choose sugar-free cough drops and you'll be fine.
You should not eat toothpaste. Toothpaste left in the mouth should be spit out after brushing.
You can download the 2x2 app to your phone. Elles you can put a timer on your phone, or get hold of a small hourglass at stores such as drugstores, Normal or toy stores.
If you think about strong taste, the taste is not harmful to the teeth. Some prefer strong flavor, while others prefer a milder variety. Choose what you like best. If you are thinking about fluoride content, it is recommended to use regular fluoride-containing toothpaste that you get bought in stores and pharmacies. There are also toothpastes with higher fluoride content to be purchased at the pharmacy. This should only be used on the recommendation of a dental hygienist or dentist.
An excessive intake of fluoride can damage the teeth as they develop (before they break out). In Norway, fluoride is not added to drinking water, but if you have well water, this is something you should pay attention to. It is also important to spit out the toothpaste left in the mouth after brushing.
If you have a permanent tooth (adult tooth) knocked out, it is best if you can put it in place yourself or with the help of someone around you as soon as possible. If this is not possible, it is important to keep the tooth moist until you get to the dentist. Research has shown that it is best to store the tooth in milk, but if you do not have milk available you can spit in a cup or in the palm of your hand, and store the tooth in the saliva. Pure water is less beneficial, but is better than letting the tooth dry.
Many people find it best to floss before brushing their teeth. The most important thing is to clean between the teeth where the brush does not reach.
Bleeding from the gums can be hormonally caused, for example due to birth control pills or hormonal changes in the menstrual cycle or pregnancy, but the most common is that the bleeding is caused by plaque/bacterial coating that remains along the gum line. The bacteria cause a slight inflammation of the gums, so that the gums become red and swollen, and begin to bleed when brushing. It is important to clean thoroughly, but gently. Using a brush with soft bristles and light movements, be sure to brush both morning and evening. Once the bacterial coating is removed and the mouth is kept clean, it will not take long for the bleeding to stop. If you do not see improvement within a week of thorough cleaning you should call the dental clinic.
Both snuff and smoke can produce harmful and visible changes in the oral cavity. Everyone who works in the dental clinic has a duty of confidentiality. From the age of 16, your parents will not receive information about your health if you do not wish to share this information with them.
If you have a small caries attack (“hole”) in your tooth enamel, you can stop it yourself with good cleaning, fluoride toothpaste and diet. If the caries attack passes through the enamel and into the dentine/tooth bone, it should, as a rule, be treated with a filling. If such a caries attack is left untreated, it can grow large and reach the nerve in the tooth (pulp). This can be very painful. It can be difficult to detect caries yourself, especially in the early phase where it is still possible to halt its progression or easy to treat. Therefore, it is important to meet when the dental clinic calls you in for a check-up.
Regular brushing of teeth for two minutes twice a day, as a rule, is enough. Additional fluoride in the form of mouthwashes or tablets is used only on the advice of a dental hygienist or dentist.
It is recommended to change your toothbrush every three months, or after you have been sick.
Whether you choose a day other than Saturday, of course, does not matter. The important thing is to reduce the time your teeth are exposed to sugar.
We recommend brushing your teeth with fluoride-containing toothpaste and tap water.
Chewing gum can be beneficial because it can stimulate the mouth to produce saliva. The saliva in the mouth has several important functions, including washing teeth and protecting against acid damage. Some types of chewing gum contain fluoride, which strengthens the enamel and makes it more resistant to caries attacks (“holes”). Additional fluoride is used on the recommendation of the dentist or dentist.
Sugar-free drinks do not nourish the bacteria that cause caries (“holes”). Sugar-free drinks, on the other hand, can have a low pH, which leads to acid damage to the teeth. Acid damage is a major dental health challenge. Acid damage occurs when acid corrodes the teeth so that the tooth substance etches away. The tooth substance that disappears will not grow back or be replaced by the body. Over time, the teeth may become more sensitive, and you may experience icing. Teeth can also change shape so that they become shorter and thinner, and teeth can also become discolored. The most common cause of acid damage is acidic drinks such as soft drinks (with and without sugar), juices and energy drinks.
Tooth enamel is the outermost layer on the tooth, and is the hardest tissue of the body. It is a hard, white substance that covers the entire tooth crown in the mouth. The enamel can absorb fluoride and calcium, which protect the tooth, but no new enamel is formed by damage to a tooth. When we eat, bacteria in the mouth produce acid that causes calcium to leach out of the enamel. Teeth and tooth enamel must be cleaned to stay healthy.
Pain is experienced differently from person to person. There is also a difference in how large/deep the hole in the tooth is. So it's hard to tell if you're going to find it painful. The dentist offers/recommends anesthesia if you wish, so that the tooth “falls asleep”. Then the dentist can repair the hole without you feeling pain.
Anesthesia is something that you can often choose. We anesthetize the tooth and gums so that you should not experience pain when repairing. Pain is experienced differently. Some can finely drill into their teeth without anesthesia, while others may find it painful and therefore want anesthesia to remove pain. Talk to your dentist about what's best.
Nicotine is a harmful product/toxin that is extracted from the tobacco plant. Both smoke, snus contain nicotine, and it is often also used in vape. Repeated use of nicotine can lead to nicotine addiction. Nicotine acts on both the brain, spinal cord and nerves in the body. Nicotine also affects blood pressure, blood circulation, breathing and stomach and bowel function, among other things.
Snus is negative for your health. Both snus and smoke contain nicotine which can have harmful effects on health both in the short and long term. When you use nicotine, whether it's smoke, snuff or vape, it affects the cardiovascular system right away. This means that the heart beats faster, the blood vessels contract and the blood pressure increases. Nicotine can also affect the maturation of the brain, which is not fully developed until the mid-20s. Both snus and smoke contain nicotine which is addictive. Do you want to go nicotine free but find it hard to quit? Check out ung.no 5 good tips to stop sniffing — Ung.no
This is a frequently asked question in the dental clinic. The most important answer is that it is most important that it be carried out, whether it is before or after breakfast. If you brush after breakfast, you will get a better effect from the fluoride in the toothpaste. The main thing is that the teeth become clean of bacteria 2 times a day. What you eat and drink can also influence whether you should brush before or after breakfast. Your breakfast consists of a slice of cheese and a glass of milk you can nicely brush right after breakfast, but if you eat fruit and drink juice you should wait a bit with the brushing.
Sugar-free chewing gum after a meal can be good for teeth as it increases saliva production. And the spit is good formhealth. The saliva cleanses the teeth and neutralizes acid produced when food is broken down by bacteria into plaque on the teeth. If, on the other hand, you chew gum too often, it can cause overstrain in the jaw muscles. Overconsumption can also cause stomach ailments.
If one forgets to brush the teeth, the bacterial coating/plaque on the teeth is not removed. A single oversight will do nothing. When you brush your teeth, you remove the bacterial coating on your teeth and your teeth get fluoride protection from the toothpaste - which makes the teeth strong. If bacterial coating is not removed, the bacteria will be able to make holes in the enamel. This does not happen if you forget to brush your teeth one day, but it will develop over time. The most important thing you can do for yourself to get healthy teeth is regular brushing twice a day. If you don't brush your teeth for over a week, the bacterial coating will irritate your gums and you will get gum inflammation. Characteristic of this are red and swollen gums that bleed easily to the touch. You will also get bad breath.
It is very different from person to person whether one finds it painful to drill/repair a tooth or not. Some people can repair a tooth without pain, while others find it painful. Dental health professionals recommend anesthesia, then the nerve inside the tooth falls asleep so that you do not feel any pain, and the dentist can repair the tooth without pain. In general, it can be said that drilling a large hole is more painful than drilling a small hole. Make an appointment with your dentist before you start drilling.
It is allowed to enjoy once in a while with soft drinks and sour drinks. However, if you drink acidic drinks too often, you can develop acid damage. If it is soda with sugar, you will also be able to get holes. Acid damage can be caused by soda both with and without sugar. The most important thing is to choose water in everyday life and between meals, and distinguish between everyday habits and what you enjoy once in a while.
It is recommended to brush twice a day. You can brush several times, but for most people it is done with brushing your teeth twice a day. Spend two minutes with each tooth brushing and with proper brushing technique.
Perhaps the question is whether to floss before or after brushing your teeth? Here the most important thing is that you clean between your teeth with dental floss, and it does not matter if it is done before or after brushing your teeth.
If there is ice in your teeth, you may want to check with your dental clinic to determine the cause. Then it is easier to give specific tips. There can be several causes of icing in the teeth. Extra fluoride can help against icing.
Almost all toothpaste sold in Norway is good. The main thing is to use toothpaste with the right fluoride content. A toothpaste for adolescents and adults should contain 1450 ppm F, this is stated on the back of the tube.
Contact your dental clinic for an examination. The dental health professional examines your teeth and works to find the cause of your problems. Extra fluoride can be helpful against icing.
It's hard to answer how much acid it takes to get acid damage. Some people get acid damage to their teeth more easily than others. The main thing is to choose water as a thirst drink and water between meals. Ask your dental clinic for advice for you.
Sugar and acidic foods are a risk factor for getting holes and can damage tooth enamel. Some bacteria in the mouth eat sugar, and the bacterias' “pee” destroys tooth enamel and causes what we call holes in the teeth. Sugar has a negative effect on teeth, so it is recommended to avoid eating this often. (Only one day a week is recommended). If you have icing your teeth, you may want to get an appointment at your dental clinic to find out why it is icing.
Chewing gum that is sugar-free is not harmful to teeth. Chewing gum promotes increased saliva production, which is good for oral health. Chewing gum with sugar, on the other hand, is a risk to dental health as sugar is a risk factor for getting holes in your teeth. It is also not recommended to chew too much gum as the jaw muscles become exhausted.
Some children and adolescents need braces to have a functional bite. It should not be painful to get braces, but the mucous membranes can get a little sore in the first few weeks. When the orthodontist should tighten the string, it can be a little uncomfortable for a small period afterwards.
Permanent teeth have a naturally yellower color than milk teeth, which are more milky white. It is common for people to have different shades of color on their teeth. The bacterial coating you get if you don't brush your teeth well enough will look yellow. Acid damage can also make teeth look yellow. Some drinks, such as coffee and tea, can cause a discoloration.
No, tooth enamel that is gone will unfortunately not grow back. If you have suffered acid damage, it is important to look at what you can do to prevent the damage from getting worse. Talk to your dental clinic to see if there are major injuries that need dental treatment.
Use a toothbrush with soft bristles and a small head. The soft bristle is gentle on teeth and gums. By choosing soft bristles, you reduce the risk of plaster damage. It is also important to apply light pressure, so that you do not brush too hard. A small brush head gets better in the mouth than a larger brush head. It makes it easier to brush all the tooth surfaces you can reach with a toothbrush.
Teeth that have cracked may acquire a gray or yellowish discoloration. There are various ways we can help you. What is done, and when, depends, among other things, on the color of the tooth, how extensive the damage is, and your age and tooth development. Check with your dental clinic to get an answer on what can be done in your particular case.
You can try to relieve icing with fluoride supplements in the form of tablets or fluoride clay (0.2%), or with toothpaste that counteracts icing in the teeth. If the icing does not go away, it is advisable to contact your dental clinic.
Brushing your teeth more than twice a day is basically not dangerous, but too frequent or too vigorous brushing (hard bristles on the toothbrush and/or harsh movements) can lead to brushing injuries. Brushing once in a while with a soft toothbrush and light pressure is just fine.
Frequent consumption of sugary foods and drinks increases the risk of getting cavities in your teeth. Sour candies and sodas can also cause acid damage to teeth. It is a good habit to limit sweets to once a week, for example, as “Saturday good”.
Soda contains a lot of acid that breaks down tooth enamel and causes acid damage to teeth. As the enamel is etched away, teeth can be felt sharper. It is advisable to limit soda drinking.
In Norway, we have an age limit of 18 years for teeth whitening, if there is no medical reason for the bleaching.
For most people, using regular fluoride toothpaste lasts, but in some cases additional fluoride supplements are needed in the form of mouthwashes or tablets. Your dental hygienist or dentist will let you know if it applies to you. If you are told that it is advisable to use a mouthwash, it is important to choose a fluoride rinse with 0.2% fluoride content. Mouthwashes without fluoride, or with a content of less than 0.2%, should be avoided.
There are many types of eating disorders and these will have different consequences for the teeth. Dentists and dental hygienists have specific expertise related to how the various eating disorders affect oral health, and can therefore give you a more concrete answer. We therefore encourage you to contact your own dentist/dental hygienist who knows a lot about this. We also encourage talking to your GP, who has knowledge of the psychological aspect of the eating disorder and how an eating disorder can affect the body purely physiologically. If you need someone to talk to you can contact the Advice on Eating Disorders (ROS) on 948 17 818 or chat at nettros.no/chat/. Mental Health Youth has a 24-hour alarm telephone for children and adolescents 116 111 and a 24-hour chat at www.116111.no.
How often each child/adolescent has to go to the dentist or dentist is individual. When you are with us for a survey, we look at, among other things, whether you have gaps, how your teeth break out, how well you brush and how your diet is. Based on this, we consider when the next examination should be carried out. Most have notice intervals of 12-24 months.
Fruits are good for the body, but frequent small eating of fruit between meals can be harmful to teeth. Fruits can contain a lot of acid, and can contribute to acid damage to teeth. Over time, this can cause icing in the teeth. As a general advice, one should contact a dentist or dentist if, over time, one has a toothache when eating.
The most important thing is just to get started. Using a brush with soft bristles, put on fluoride toothpaste (you can moisten the brush first) and brush with gentle movements. Feel free to start at the back, and move systematically forward. Be sure to clean all surfaces; out towards the cheek/lips, on the chewing surfaces, and in towards the tongue/palate. If you haven't been brushing for a long time, it's common to bleed. This is not dangerous. Just continue to brush thoroughly, but with light pressure. After a few days, the bleeding will subside. If you are unsure, you can call the dental clinic for help and follow-up.
Thanks for an interesting question. A survey of a 70.55 kg adult body at the University of Illinois in 1945 found that teeth accounted for 0.06% of body weight. That is, the teeth together weighed 42.33 g. It is not stated whether the dentition is full or whether it includes wisdom teeth. Other sources state the average weight of a tooth to be 0.68-1.88 g depending on the type of tooth. Most adults have 32 teeth in a dentition, including four wisdom teeth. Some lack facilities for wisdom teeth, getting only 28 teeth. Others may have more or fewer dental facilities.
Everyone has a slightly different color of teeth, and teeth that look yellowish can be as healthy and healthy as whiter teeth. The colour of teeth is partly genetically determined, but it can also be influenced by external factors such as oral hygiene, food and tobacco use. Teeth can also sometimes become discolored after injury.
One can have oral sex with regulation, but one has to be careful. Here, as otherwise, it is important that both agree and safe, and that one communicates well.
It's perfectly safe to indulge in candy, as long as it's not too often. Frequent consumption of sugary foods and drinks increases the risk of getting cavities in your teeth. Sour candies and sodas can also cause acid damage to teeth. It is a good habit to limit sweets to once a week, for example, as “Saturday good”. It is also important to brush well twice a day for two minutes each time (2x2).
While it may look like that on film, fortunately in practice it is almost impossible to get stuck in each other's braces when two with regulation kiss.
Anything that is sharp can hurt. It is important to be careful and that both parties are safe.
Vaping can cause changes in the oral cavity. Depending on how long you've been vaping, and how often you do it, dental health professionals may notice these changes. Either way, it's important to be open about the fact that you're vaping when talking to your health care provider. Information about vaping, snus use and smoking is important so that we can provide you with the best possible follow-up.
No, it doesn't hurt, but petting is best with a fresh and clean mouth.
Frequent consumption of sugary foods and drinks increases the risk of getting cavities in your teeth. Sour candies and sodas can also cause acid damage to teeth. It is a good habit to limit sweets to once a week, for example, as “Saturday good”. A small handful of nuts can be a healthy substitute for candy if you're craving something good. Otherwise, you can rinse grapes and put them in the freezer (advisable to take off the stalk first) for a fresh and good alternative. Remember to brush your teeth well twice a day for two minutes (2x2).
If you're going to pull a tooth, you almost always have to have anesthesia. If you are worried about the anaesthetic or the pulling, you should let the dentist know. You may well call and talk to them in advance. Then you get information about what is going to happen and you can talk about what can be done to help you. If you are wondering something about anesthesia, you can find a short information film at tkmidt.no.
Important causes of tooth discoloration in young people are coating on the teeth, or dyes from food and drinks. Clean teeth look whiter than teeth that haven't been brushed in a while. To remove the coating that builds up on the tooth surface, it is important to brush twice a day for two minutes, but soft toothbrush and gentle movements. If the coating has been lying around for a long time, you may want to get the help of a dental hygienist or dentist to get a proper clean. Foods and beverages such as coffee and tea, and some spices and supplements can also cause discoloration. If you want to avoid discoloration from things you eat or drink, you may want to have a glass of water next to it, and of course brush well.
It is very rare that it is dangerous to have holes in the teeth for a young and healthy person, but gaps that are not treated can grow large and can become painful. Contact your dental clinic if you are afraid that you have gaps.
Yes, the hourglasses count down two minutes, so you can keep track of how long you should brush.
You can fine eat ice cream with regulation. Avoid chewing on hard ice (ice cubes).
Regular toothpaste from the grocery store or pharmacy is fine, as long as it contains fluoride. Adults, adolescents and children over six years of age should choose an adult toothpaste. If you have problems with blisters and sores in the mouth (after/mouth cold) you should choose a toothpaste without the soap substance SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate).
There can be several reasons why teeth look yellow. One of the reasons is genetics. We all have different shades of color on our teeth from nature. Teeth can also be stained by food, drink and tobacco. If one has used a type of antibiotic called tetracyclines before adult teeth were fully formed, it can cause the teeth to appear discolored. Damage to the teeth that either causes the tooth to die, or initiates a repair process in the tooth, can also cause discoloration of the damaged tooth. If teeth are subjected to frequent acid attacks (for example by drinking acidic drinks), the outer, protective enamel can be eroded away, leaving dentin (tooth bone) visible (illustration here?). Just like other bone tissue in the body, dentin is also yellowish. As the enamel gradually disappears, the yellow color from the dentin will shine through, making the teeth look yellow.
Tea can cause discoloration of teeth, but as long as you don't add sugar/honey or lemon, tea drinking is not harmful to teeth. In fact, tea can strengthen teeth, since tea plants absorb fluoride from the soil in which they are grown, giving tea a natural content of fluoride.
When you get elastic on your teeth, or have braces put on or tightened, you may feel sore and “tired” in your teeth for a few days. Some will find it a little painful, while others will not notice much of it. If you're in pain, it's okay to take over-the-counter pain tablets.
Coatings on the teeth are called plaque. Plaque is a combination of food debris, bacteria, and substances from saliva. If you do not remove this coating with brushing your teeth, it will build up on your teeth. The bacteria in the plaque can then do damage to teeth and gums, allowing one to develop caries/holes, or get a small infection that causes red, swollen and bleeding gums. If you notice that your gums are bleeding, it is important to brush thoroughly, but gently, with a soft brush. If the plaque remains for a long time, it can turn into tartar. Tartar must be removed at the dental clinic.
In Norway, support is provided for braces in cases of overbite over 6 mm. Which treatment is recommended for overbite or other bite defects is assessed by the regulatory dentist based on how your bite or your dental position is.
Holes don't have to cause pain, but if you have pain or icing in your teeth after eating something sweet, it can be a sign of a hole or tooth decay. Contact the dental clinic.
No, it's not harmful to your teeth to get someone else's tongue on your teeth.
I assume by “the purple thing” you mean plaque tinting tablet. Plaque staining tablets are completely safe to use both before and after brushing your teeth. The recommended use is to take one tablet when you have finished brushing your teeth. Chew the tablet well for 30 seconds. The dyes from the tablet adhere to the plaque/bacterial coating. Thus, you can easily see if there are any places that need more thorough plastering.
Electric toothbrush may be nice, but is not necessary to get clean teeth. The important thing is to clean all the surfaces of the teeth, choosing toothpaste with fluoride and toothbrush with soft bristles. Ask at the dental clinic to show how to brush correctly with an electric toothbrush.
No, in the dental clinic the days are very varied. To thrive as a dentist, you need to love talking to people, but also enjoy the technical tasks and be concerned with health.
There is no absolute limit on this. The longer you wait to drink water after brushing your teeth, the more time the fluoride from the toothpaste will work on the teeth to strengthen the tooth enamel. After brushing your teeth in the evening, you can wait until the next morning, and after the morning brushing it is nice to wait until lunch, but if you need water before this, for example, when exercising, there is no crisis.
It is very rare that holes in the teeth are directly dangerous, but they can cause pain and problems in the oral cavity. Since you often do not even notice that you have holes in your teeth, it is important to check regularly with your dentist or dentist. When you show up for the control hours you are summoned to, any gaps can be detected early. A hole does not repair itself, so if they detect that you have a hole, it is important to get the hole repaired so that the tooth is whole again.
Pain is experienced differently from person to person. It can be painful to drill, therefore you may want to get an anesthetic. If you are wondering more about drilling and anaesthesia you can watch short information films here TBIT (tkmidt.no).
You can stop small holes/caries attacks even with good cleaning and the use of fluoride. Even if the hole does not develop further, there may still be a small indentation in the enamel where the caries attack once was. In the case of larger holes, all the diseased in the tooth is removed with drilling. After the hole is cleaned, it is sealed again with a filling. Then there should be nothing left of the original hole, but you can get new caries attacks at the edges of the filling.
Normally we have 20 milk teeth and 32 adult teeth (permanent teeth). Some people lack one or more wisdom teeth (the posterior molars), and some individuals lack other dental facilities, or have one or more additional ones, but the most common are 20 milk teeth and 32 adult teeth.
Caffeine itself has no known effect on teeth, but dyes from coffee and tea can cause discoloration of teeth.
It's not often that we smell bad breath. A fresh mouth smells little, and many brush their teeth before coming to us. Besides, we have a face mask. If you are sick or have problems in your mouth, it may smell, but that's fine, and it's our job to help find and treat the cause of bad breath. If you feel that you are suffering from bad breath, it is advisable to call the dental clinic for help.

Pain or icing in the teeth after eating candy can be a sign of holes in the teeth, but can also be caused by other things, such as teeth damage. If you experience pain after eating candy it is recommended that you contact the dental clinic.
To become a dentist, one studies dentistry. It is a five-year degree that in Norway is offered at the universities of Tromsø, Bergen and Oslo.
How often one needs to come to control depends varies from person to person. Most will have notice intervals of between 12 and 24 months.
The best thing is to avoid piercing. The piercing can damage the gums, causing the teeth to lose their attachment and may become loose. They can also cause damage to teeth, presenting an increased risk of infections. If the piercing detaches, there may be a risk of it being swallowed or inhaled and ending up in the airways. The piercing can damage nerves and blood vessels.
If you still want to have a piercing, there are several things you should think about.
First, it is important to choose a piercing studio that takes hygiene seriously and that knows what they are doing. Piercing in the mouth has can be the cause of diseases such as hepatitis B and C or endocarditis (inflammation of the heart).
In case of heavy bleeding that cannot be stopped by applying pressure on the wound, immediate help should be sought.
Swelling is common with piercing. In extreme cases, the swellings in the mouth can become so large that they impede free breathing.
Hygiene and care of the piercing is important. Keep the wound as clean as possible. Clean with physiological saline after each meal and always wash your hands well if you are going to put on the piercing.
Avoid playing with the piercing.
Choose lightweight materials, avoiding metal.
Check regularly that the piercing fits well.
Remove the piercing when doing sports.
Be thorough with oral hygiene.
Please note that piercing can cause temporary speech problems.
Chewing gum can be beneficial for teeth as long as it is sugar-free. Sugar-free chewing gum contributes to increased saliva production, which helps to wash the mouth between meals. Some chews have fluoride added, which can also be beneficial if you get cavities frequently (check with your dentist or dentist if fluoride gum is for you). Too much chewing can cause problems such as headaches, jaw joint pain or diarrhea.
Throughout the day, a coating builds up on the teeth. This coating is called plaque, and consists of bacteria, breakdown products from food, and substances from saliva.
It is important to remove this plaque mechanically with toothbrushing with fluoride toothpaste and toothbrush with soft bristles twice a day for two minutes each time (2x2).
It may be okay to brush more often sometimes, especially if you have eaten something sweet, or if you want fresh breath. However, be aware that excessive brushing can lead to brushing damage to the teeth and/or gums. Choose soft bristles on the toothbrush, and apply light pressure when brushing. Avoid brushing your teeth immediately after vomiting or consuming foods or drinks with high acid content. For everyday use, it is nice to brush twice a day for two minutes each time (2x2).
