Background

We are increasingly older and more elderly people today retain their own teeth, which requires follow-up and dental treatment. We know little about how oral health is in the elderly, neither in healthy home residents, those in need of care services at home and those in institutions. In order to provide a targeted service both in terms of good prevention and treatment, we need to know more about oral health in the elderly.

Purpose

We will map oral health and oral health related problems in the elderly including mapping the incidence of oral health related problems.

Methods

In HUNT4 70+, oral health is recorded in healthy elderly and in elderly people in home care and in institution. Based on these data, we will explore the relationship between oral health and gender, age, place of residence, living conditions and socioeconomic factors, etc. We will also explore oral health in the context of nutritional status, cognitive and physical functioning.
