Suhu — Sunt og usunt i HUNT
What do we eat and how does our diet affect our health and, in particular, oral health?

The aim of the project “Sunt ogusunt i HUNT” is to survey and assess the diet among participants in the Health Survey Trøndelag (HUNT). The mapping of total energy, nutrient and food intake in the population is based on one food frequency questionnaire in the additional project HUNT4 Diet. This form contains about 280 questions about the consumption of various foods that a total of 5025 people aged 19-69 years have answered.
The results will be assessed against national dietary guidelines and Nordic nutrient recommendations, and viewed in the context of medical-infectious diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and overweight/obesity. The listed diseases are leading causes ofdisease burden and death in the Western world. Diet, physical activity andsmoking show a strong correlation with the development and prevention of many of thesediseases.
In the project “Suntog unhealthy in HUNT” we also want to look at the relationship of diet with diseases related to teeth and mouth (caries and periodontitis). Since we have knowledge gaps in how diet affects our oral health, especially periodontitis, we want to focus more on this area.
